How to Freeze Ripe Avocado
Freeze ripe avocado so you don’t throw away this delicious superfood.
Avocados are a pretty important ingredient for everyone who is into eating heatlhier. We’ll pay extra for them at restaurants and in the store, especially when they are out of season. We love them on salads, smashed on toast, added to smoothies or frozen into ice cream for dessert.
Avocado is the perfect health food.
I’m sure you’re a lot like me and really hate seeing those avocaco halves turn brown. Well I have some good news. I’ve discovered a genius trick for never wasting delicious avocado again – freeze it.
How to Freeze Ripe Avocado in 4 Easy Steps
Step 1: Wash the outside of the avocado.
Step 2: Slice the avocado in half, peel off the skin and remove the pit.
Step 3: Brush the ripe flesh with lemon juice and tightly wrap the avocado in plastic wrap, be sure to leave no air pockets.
Step 4: Place the wrapped avocado into a large freezer bag. Put it in the freezer for up to six months. (I wrap either quarters or halves at a time because those are perfect serving sizes for smoothies.)
Here’s the catch….it’s not going to taste the same as fresh avocado when it’s sliced so I don’t recommend that. How you can use it is to add it frozen to your smoothies or set the avocado on the counter and let it thaw naturally and completely for your favorite guac recipe or avocado salad dressing.
So buy that bag of Costco Hass avocado and get your fill of guac all winter long! And there are so many more avocado recipes for you to enjoy too.
