Today I was rushing around getting kids ready for school, throwing in a load of laundry and helping my parents who are living with me for the winter – and I got hungry! I went to my standby sensational, simple and QUICK smoothie recipe (I emphasis quick because I love whole food smoothies but sometimes there just isn’t the time – I went with this fast food instead of no food). It was filling, tasted great and kept me moving during my busy morning so I thought I would share it with you!
Not all shakes are created equal
I added a little note at the bottom of the recipe to be you check out the nutrition facts and if you use this recipe as a meal replacement, be sure you are using a true meal replacement shake mix so you body is getting the nutrients is need until you can feed it again.
- 220-230 calories per serving
- Less than 5 grams of fat per serving
- 3-5 grams of fiber per serving
- 10-15 grams of protein per serving
- Fortified with a third of daily vitamins and minerals
If you chose a low calorie option, it may not be a true meal replacement and we need good calories (consisting of good protein, low saturated fats, high fiber, good sugars & carbs) in our meals for our body to function best and provide the energy needed until our next meal.
I not only look for the above but one that is also low-glycemic so my blood sugar stays even and doesn’t spike – of course keeping me satiated longer too. I also look for natural sugars versus artificial for the obvious reasons. Non-GMO is an absolute and taste a big factor too.
PS: Kids love this too!
