Clean & Healthy Vanilla Almond Smoothie

This clean and healthy vanilla almond smoothie is perfect for either breakfast, lunch or after a workout. I call this a clean and healthy because I use a clean, vegan pea protein and a premium brand of vanilla extract + almond butter. Using high-quality, premium ingredients that don’t contain artificial colors, flavors or fillers can make a big difference in the flavor of your smoothies.

For this delicious smoothie recipe, which I just made this morning YUM!, I use USANA’s MySmart™ Shake clean, non-GMO, plant protein with a mild vanilla flavor. Most protein powders tend to be grainy and chalky, but MySmart™ Shake blends up smoothly. I also add additional fiber. For my choice, see link below.

Why add fiber?

Fiber is essential to maintaining good health and maintaining your ideal weight but most people aren’t getting enough.

According to the Institute of Medicine, men age 50 and younger should get 38 grams a day of fiber, while women age 50 and younger should get 25 grams a day of fiber. Meanwhile, men ages 51 and older should get 30 grams a day, and women ages 51 and older should get 21.

In my research, most of us need much more for healthy digestion, keeping blood sugar stable and a healthy cardiovascular system. It also helps support our weight loss or ideal weight management goals.

My aim? At least 40 grams for women, even more than that for men (so true if you are trying to lose weight).

Most people are only getting about 15 grams per day or even less. Adding a psyllium husk fiber supplement to your smoothie is an easy and healthy way to increase your  fiber intake.

CLEAN & HEALTHY VANILLA ALMOND SMOOTHIE RECIPE (2 servings)

  • 14 ounces of purified waterclean and healthy vanilla almond shake 2
  • 1 serving premium vanilla protein powder
  • 1 frozen small banana
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract or 2 tablespoons almond butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon psyllium husk fiber powder (optional, good for extra fiber)
  • a handful or two of ice

Optional smoothie boosters:

  • 1 teaspoon or ground flax seed or hemp seed
  • cacao sprinkles on top
  • probiotic powder- stirred in (I use this one)

Blend all ingredients in Vitamix, NutriBullet or a high-speed blender for about a minute until smooth. If using a Vitamix with a smoothie setting, use that or start on lower speed and slowly work to high for the smoothest results.

Enjoy your vanilla almond smoothie, I just did!
